SPEAKING IN “TONGUES” the Bible Truth

Just the title of this post will throw Charismatics into an ecclesiastical tale spin.  First Corinthians chapter 14, verses 27 through 34 lay down the law concerning speaking in tongues.   Question is, have the modern Charismatics read and understood what the Bible says about the modern tongue phenomenon of today?

Even though the above passage of scripture gives rules for speaking in tongues, no Charismatic or Pentecostal pays any attention to what the Bible writ has to say in 1Cor. 14.

  1. NO WOMAN, is to speak in tongues in the assembly ( 1Cor. 14:34).
  2. ONLY MEN are to speak (1Cor. 14:34).
  3. ONLY TWO OR THREE are to speak in any one service (1Cor. 14:29).
  4. ONLY ONE AT A TIME can talk in tongues (1Cor. 14:31).
  5. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT if no one can interpret what you say (1Cor. 14:28).

The five conditions I listed above are not suggestions, but rather commandments from the Lord Jesus Christ himself.  If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord (1Cor. 14: 37).  First Corinthians chapter 14 puts it in black and white; the modern Charismatic movement is not Biblical because it does not measure up to Biblical standards put forth in God’s Holy BibleLet God’s words be true and every man a liar that does not agree with God’s words.  Now, where does that leave the modern Charismatic and Pentecostal?  Hmmm.

Ray, your post, although true, doesn’t address the fact that tongues were only temporary. The list you gave is a biblical list. Most Pentecostal religions do not adhere to it. But what if you were to find one that does?
Why not show them biblically, what tongues were for, how long they were to last, how the gift of tongues were passed to other people and when they were to end?
Why do you have to say things like “KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT” when the bible says to keep silence?
It’s rude, meant to try to humiliate, and not Christ like at all. That is not how Christ taught.

Down with heresy and Heresy Hunter, same to you, why do you have to make fun of them, again not very Christ like.

Why not show them that these things have ceased rather than just make fun “anyone can speak like a nut”. They have been blinded, help them to see with love and truth and kindness and above all with scripture (which is truth so I may have been redundant there).

  2. down with heresy says:

Ba ta te la fa so ta ta fa be ooo la sa….any one got the interpretation for that…hold on.i.will iterpert it myself….it says charismatic chaos

  3. herersy Hunters says:

We have all heard the term “speaking in tongues”; but, no one actually spoke in tongues in the Bible. Rather, they spoke in their own language, and the listeners HEARD the message in their own native language. We read in Acts 2:8-11, “And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.” So none of the Apostles, nor any of the New Testament saints, ever spoke in some unknown Heavenly jibber-jabber; but rather, in their own native language. Anyone can get up in church and jibber jabber and speak like a nut yabba dabba Dabba Dabba Scooby dooby dooby…… I’d also talk to her former Pentecostal they had told him the Bible Nutt their final authority it’s what they hear from God that supersedes the Bible and there you have the Pentecostal madness
