BeforeLet’s take a look at the three applications I address more isms and schisms that falsely claim to be the Body of Christ, I think it is necessary to do a short commentary on understanding the Holy Bible in an attempt to uncover how some well-meaning people and deliberate agents of the devil who wrest the scriptures to their own destruction. The “long and short of it” is context! Scripture used out of context is a pretext!
All the verses of the Bible have three applications. Application is very important to understanding and applying the truth of scripture to one’s life. Wrong application coupled with unbelief is the foundation of cults such as the Seventh Day Adventists, Mormons, JW’s, Oneness Pentecostals, Campbellites and the list of such isms and schisms goes on. of scripture as they relate to the Christian life.
Historical, doctrinal, and spiritual applications are the ways that scripture should is applied to one’s belief system in respect to eternity and this earthly life. Some verses of scripture have historical value, coupled with some spiritual value and no doctrinal value whatsoever for the body of Christ. A good example would be the fourth commandment about keeping the sabbath day. This commandment has obvious historical value plus spiritual value when applied to Jesus being our rest and our ceasing from our own works as the Lord did his at creation. Sabbath keeping is not to be practiced by the church, and has been made a stumbling block by cults such as the Seventh Day Adventists.
Scriptures can have historical, spiritual, and doctrinal value such as Genesis 1:1, In the beginning God…and the three applications are obvious!
A good example of significant historical and some spiritual value would be Acts 2:38 that has become a stumbling block to hundreds of thousands who believe in baptismal regeneration and dare to hang their eternal destiny on this one verse that most blind reprobates cannot even quote in its entirety. Acts 2:38 has absolutely no doctrinal value in regard to being born again for the church of the living God!
