ANGEL WINGS? Yes or No?
Recently I challenged a FaceBook post that suggested a feminine looking cloud formation with wings was possibly a modern angelic apparition for these last days. When I made my statement that angels do not have wings and Satan was not a fallen angel, I was challenged on my assertion and told that I should search the Scriptures, thus saying only what the Bible says. So I did search, and I will say only what the Bible says; as I was told to do; and many will be surprised at my findings. The following is what I came up with by searching the Holy Scriptures (AV1611 of course).
First of all Satan is not a fallen angel, as I first stated when answering on FaceBook. He was created as a covering cherub whom God will destroy. Ezekiel 28: 13-19 …and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub,…
There seems to be much confusion left over from the Dark Ages concerning any similarities of cherubim and angels. So I first did a count of how many times these words appeared in the Scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments. The word cherubim occurs approximately 64 times in the O.T. and 1 time in the N.T . The word cherub occurs about 29 times in the O.T. and we do not see this word again in the N.T.
The word “angel” in various tenses appears about 198 times in the O.T. and around 99 times in the N.T. The word angel appearing almost 300 times in the Scriptures begs us to take a closer look at what an angel is and is not. It would seem an intelligent argument that if an angel were a cherub that God the Holy Ghost would have told us so. But He didn’t. And therefore we shouldn’t.
The false teaching that spurred this short Bible study was the question, “Do angels have wings?” They DO NOT, not in the Old or New Testaments. Cherubim are recorded in the scriptures having wings. Wings or no wings seems to be a physical distinguishing mark between cherubim and angels. Get your concordance and Bible out and take a look for yourself. You will not find one instance from Genesis to Revelation where the Scripture teaches, indicates, or hints that angels have wings.
Attributes of Angels
Angels have sinned, asked questions about man, fallen, eaten manna, taken on the form of a male human being, guarded a tomb, ascended and descended, appeared unto men taking on the form of men, appeared unto men undetected, led men out of harms way, appeared to a dumb ass that spoke to a false prophet, assemble in legions, rebuked Satan with God’s words, appeared in dreams, foretold the birth of Jesus Christ, announced Jesus’ birth, led Jesus’ parents out harms way, killed men and will kill men again, blinded sodomites, will bind Christ’s enemies, will cast men into Hell, will open vials of wrath, delivered heavenly messages before we had all of God’s word (AV1611 of course) and the list can go on and on, BUT NOT ONE DISPLAYED WINGS. Read it for yourself, NO WINGS!!
Angelic Fiction
Angels, according to scripture are not children that passed away, do not preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in this church age, do not appear in church services, are not our military or theirs, are not any dead human being that received wings, they were created and did not metamorphosis from humans, are not Christian bellhops, or any other Laodicean church myth that has or will pop up outside the perimeters of the words of the Living God (AV1611 of course).
The cartoon, Casper the friendly ghost is more real and tangible than some of the angel sightings reported by sincere (but wrong) professing Christians in this Laodicean church age.
EXAMPLE: I have had occasion to visit a charismatic church on two or three occasions that has weekly angel sightings, or so the pastor claims; he is the only one that sees the angels. And now marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an ANGEL OF LIGHT. 2Cor. 11:14 During each of my visits the pastor stopped the service to say that at least 450 to 650 angels are present in the sanctuary. During this time he makes a short acclamation to match the sign at the front, claiming they do not worship angels, but what else is it? It get worse from here. He, …intruding into those things which he HATH NOT SEEN, vainly PUFFED UP by his FLESHLY MIND 2Col. 2:18 then tells the congregation that the angels have deposited angelic or heavenly oil on the window sills or some other place in the sanctuary and strongly urges them to look for the oil and anoint themselves with it. During each visit he has chastised anyone who doesn’t cooperate. with his scheme. But I knowing and obeying scripture, Let no man beguile you (me) of your (my) reward in a VOLUNTARY HUMILITY and WORSHIPING OF ANGELS…2Col. 2:18 Surprise, surprise, surprise they actually do it! What’s is more after there fresh anointing of oil they swab the deck with cloths to take home or for others not in attendance that day. What a thing man, what a thing?
God’s words (AV1611 King James Bible) are our OUR FINAL AUTHORITY. We cannot in these last days let what man says or what we think or HAVE SEEN be our final authority. Angel wings seem like a small matter, but when we err from scripture our error leads to more error; and we could be found of the Lord in gross non- Biblical error like the pastor who chose to lie in wait to deceive Eph. 4:14, and find ourselves greasing the window sills before each service. Let each of us be found saying what the Bible says, not what Roman Catholic and Protestant traditions of the elders say.
